Cass/Clay Economic Plan
In 2006 the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corporation (GFMEDC) undertook a strategic planning initiative to better position the Fargo Moorhead economy for continued economic and population growth. For years the region has experienced impressive growth in population, employment, gross metro product and individual incomes, thanks to a solid primary sector base in manufacturing, distribution, agriculture and back office operations. Despite this success, Fargo Moorhead (like all cities) faces the new challenges and opportunities of the global economic environment and must respond with innovative strategies to ensure long-term growth.
The strategic planning initiative was a community effort involving dozens of representatives from the private, academic and public sectors. It entailed economic research and analysis, a self-directed assessment of the community's strengths and assets, and the development of a plan -- the Cass/Clay Economic Plan -- that presents an outline for transitioning the Fargo Moorhead economy to more technology-based, growth sector industries. Growth sector industries are those that are growing and leading employment gains in the United States, and typically pay higher-than-average wages.
Making this transition will require strageic investment in five areas: core knowledge infrastructure, entrepreneurial infrastructure, telecommunications infrastructure, air service and K-12 science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. The GFMEDC is committed to executing the Cass/Clay Economic Plan in conjunction with our public, private and academic partners.
