Biopharmaceuticals

In Fargo Moorhead, we are building on our history of excellence in health care and life sciences, including medicine, pharmacy and agriculture, by positioning ourselves as a leader in the growing field of biopharmaceuticals.  Partnerships between the private sector and academia, and the region's large number of college-graduates in life science and healthcare disciplines, make it possible.

Highlighted by the Center for Biopharmaceutical Research & Production (CBRP), a center of excellence at North Dakota State University (NDSU), and the nation's first university minor in vaccinology, Fargo Moorhead is setting itself apart. The CBRP is led by C. Satishchandran (Satish), a former Pfizer executive who brings a wealth of experience in both research and business. The CBRP is fueling the biopharmaceutical industry through the discovery and development of novel biopharmaceuticals and vaccines to treat some of the most challenging diseases facing humankind. The Center's scientists and industry experts develop vaccines and biopharmaceutical products through product development, manufacturing and conducting pre-clinical and clinical studies in conjunction with its private sector partners. Tri-College University, a consortium of NDSU, Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) and Concordia College, is one of the first institutions in the country offering a higher education curriculum dedicated to vaccinology. The program combines the resources of Concordia's Global Vaccine Institute, which performs research and development in vaccine design and pre-clinical trials, focusing on neglected tropical diseases such as hookworm; the MSUM biotechnology and biochemistry industry program; and the NDSU College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Allied Sciences (PNSA), along with the CBRP, to produce a workforce for biopharmaceutical companies.
